Advantages of alcohol fuels:
1. Excellent environmental performance: Alcohols contain oxygen and have a lower hydrocarbon content than traditional gasoline and diesel, resulting in more complete combustion and significantly reduced emissions of soot, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide, thus reducing air pollution. Furthermore, the main combustion products are water and carbon dioxide, which are lower than fossil fuels, better meeting low-carbon requirements.
2. Excellent anti-knock performance: Alcohols have a high octane rating (methanol octane rating is approximately 110), far exceeding the national standard for gasoline. They are excellent anti-knock additives for gasoline, allowing engines to increase compression ratios and improve thermal efficiency. High-proportion alcohol fuels offer performance close to that of regular gasoline.
3. Low infrastructure costs: Alcohols are liquid fuels, and their storage and transportation can directly utilize existing fossil fuel storage and transportation systems, eliminating the need for large-scale infrastructure construction and lowering promotion costs.
4. Wide range of renewable raw material sources: Ethanol can be produced through the fermentation of biomass such as grains and straw, while methanol can be produced from coal and natural gas. It can also be synthesized into "green methanol" through green electricity coupled with carbon dioxide, making it a renewable energy source that can alleviate the pressure of fossil fuel depletion. 5. Wide ignition range: Alcohol fuels have a wider ignition limit than gasoline, allowing them to operate in lean mixture zones, which helps reduce fuel consumption and improve exhaust purification, and also makes it easier to control the air-fuel ratio.
