Aliphatic hydrocarbons have a wide range of applications in industrial production and daily life. Their main applications and uses are as follows:

 

1. Energy and Fuel Sector: This is the most common civilian application of aliphatic hydrocarbons: Methane from natural gas and low-carbon alkanes from petroleum gas are clean and efficient civilian fuels, widely used in household gas stoves and heating; gasoline, kerosene, diesel, and other petroleum fractionation products are core fuels for transportation and industrial power generation.

 

2. Chemical Synthesis Sector: Low-carbon aliphatic hydrocarbons (C1-C5) are core raw materials for petrochemicals: olefins such as ethylene and propylene can be polymerized to produce commonly used synthetic plastics such as polyethylene cling film and polypropylene helmets; linear higher olefins can be used to produce plasticizers and surfactants; higher n-alkanes can be oxidized to produce fatty acids, the raw material for soap, and chlorinated and sulfonated to produce surfactants, flame retardants, and other chemical products.

 

3. Solvents: Aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents are important auxiliary materials in industrial production: gasoline, kerosene, petroleum ether, etc., are widely used as paint thinners and industrial oil stain cleaners, quickly dissolving resins and oil stains with minimal residue; in the pharmaceutical industry, they are used to extract and separate drug components; in rubber synthesis, they serve as reaction media to enhance product performance; in precision manufacturing, they can clean electronic circuit boards and optical lenses without corroding the substrate and leaving no residue.

 

4. Light Industry and Consumer Goods: Textile Dry Cleaning: Aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, as dry cleaning solvents, have strong cleaning power and can protect wool fabrics from deformation; Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals: Used for the extraction and formulation of ingredients in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals; some unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons can also participate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals as intermediates; Special Raw Materials: C10-C30 n-alkanes can be fermented by bacteria to produce single-cell proteins, used as animal feed.
